  Honey glanced in her rearview mirror for the hundredth time and saw Logan’s SUV following closely behind her. She left his cabin hours ago, had gone to back home to wash up, and then had met him for dinner. For a second neither got out of their vehicles, just sitting there, maybe thinking about how to proceed. Honey glanced in her rearview mirror and saw how he watched her. Because there were no headlights blinding her, she could see the intense look on his face.   A lump formed in her throat. “No.” She moved into the living room, and he turned. “My mother died when I was born, and my father was a no-show from the beginning. I was raised by my aunt, but after she died from an infection in her heart ten years ago, I decided to move away from everything that reminded me of what I lost.” Honey poured them both a big glass of wine. Once he had his, she lifted hers to her mouth and took a long drink. Logan watched her, his glass untouched.

  “Sorry. I get a little uncomfortable speaking about my aunt and my mom.” She might not have known her mother, but she had lost the only two women in her life who had loved her. Her aunt Holly had told her all about her mother, Merlyn. The wonderful, colorful stories of their youth, and how happy Merlyn was when she found out she was pregnant.
