  “Where do we go from here, Logan?” she asked softly, feeling his heart beating steadily right beside her ear, and not wanting to have to worry about anything else. But she had to, needed to know where they were going to go from this point forward. She tilted her head back, looking up at him. His eyes were closed, but she knew he was fully alert to everything around him. It never went past her this male was a trained killer, and had probably taken out more lives than she cared to know. In a short amount of time, she had given herself to him completely and welcomed it. Of course it was far too early to be in love, but being in lust with this male was going hard and strong inside of her, and she could easily see herself losing herself to him completely.

  “We take one day at a time, baby.” He opened his eyes and stared at her. “We learn about each other, figure out a medium where we can understand this mating thing together, and we hold on.” He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead. “I’ll protect you, watch over you, and make sure that we make this work, because I have never wanted anything more in my life.” He leaned back but kept his hand on her cheek. “I won’t say I won’t piss you off, because I will. I’m an alpha. I like things to go my way. But we’re a good match for each other, and I couldn’t have asked for a better mate.”

  She smiled and rested her head on his chest again. She couldn’t have said it better herself.

  Epilogue

  One year later

  “Fuck.” Logan cursed and placed the frying pan on the hot pad before going over to the sink and running cold water over the burn on his thumb. “Sonofabitch,” he said low. He heard the sound of the shower cutting off and grabbed a rag. After turning the sink off and drying his hands, he stared at the table. He had cooked for his woman, for the first time in fact. It was their one-year anniversary of being a mated couple, and although he could have taken her to some fancy-as-fuck restaurant, he wanted to do something intimate for her. He couldn’t guarantee dinner would be edible, but what he planned on for tonight wasn’t about the meal. After this was all said and done, he hoped his female would be focused on other things.

  He grabbed a bottle of red wine, took the plates of pasta, salad, and bread to the table, and poured them each a glass. The box in his front pocket felt heavy, and it pressed against his chest. He placed a hand over it, stared at the back hallway, and then heard the bedroom door open and close. Honey stepped out, her long hair damp and curling around her shoulders, and her luscious thighs visible because her dress was short as fuck.

  Honey smiled when she saw him. When she was right in front of him, he didn’t stop himself from pulling her close and kissing the hell out of her. For several minutes he held her, tongue fucking her with his mouth, because right now he needed a distraction. He was nervous as shit, and the fact that he had never felt that kind of emotion until he had met his mate was a little unsettling. She pulled back, resting her head on his chest, her body molding against his.

  “Damn, if I had known this was what you had planned tonight I would have come out of the bedroom in nothing.”

  He growled, felt his cock harden further, but knew he had to get through this first. He glanced at the table. They should eat first, maybe drink some wine to calm his nerves, but Logan wanted this done. His animals were on edge, pacing back and forth, and he needed to appease them before they forced him to shift because he couldn’t control himself. So, Logan jumped the fucking gun, grabbed the small black velvet box out of his pocket, and presented it to Honey. She stared at it for a second, glanced at him with wide eyes, licking her lips slowly.

  “Logan…” Honey said softly, almost a little uncertainly.

  He kissed her before she could say anything. Logan pulled back and opened the box. Inside was a one-carat diamond solitaire. He wasn’t a jewelry man, and certainly didn’t know what females liked, but when he had seen it, he knew it would look gorgeous on Honey. Taking the ring out, he lifted her left hand and slipped the diamond on her ring finger. Logan felt his heart beating in his throat, and said, “I am a pain in the ass, am a dominant bastard, and you put up with my controlling and possessive personality constantly.” He squeezed her hand gently. “But I love you, Honey Bellamy, have never loved anyone in my entire life, and before you I didn’t want to spend my life with another soul.” Lifting her hand to his mouth, he kissed her fingers and stared into her face. “But I want you not only as my mate, but my wife too.”

  “Logan,” she breathed out and looked at the ring. “I’m speechless.”

  “Baby, I know a legal document stating you’re my wife doesn’t come close to the connection we have as mates, but I want that piece of paper, want a link of connection to make this full circle.” He got on one knee, held her hand up, and asked, for the first time in his life, “Honey Bellamy, will you be my wife?”

  The tears started to slip down her cheeks, and he cursed, not knowing if he had upset her. Before he could say anything, she was in his arms, the force making them fall back. She straddled him, cupped his face, and kissed him hard.

  “Yes,” she said against his mouth. “Yes, I’ll be your wife.” They kissed each other fiercely, and he wanted to be with her in every way, but before he could tear her clothes off, she pulled away and stood. “Run with me, Logan.” She took off her dress, and he saw that she was nude underneath the silky material.

  “Damn, baby.” He stared at her body, slowly stood, and started taking his clothes off too. He was hard, aching for her, but he needed this run as much as he could tell she did. A shifter didn’t need to change into their animal form very frequently, and with their emotions running high, their combined arousal intense, and the fact they hadn’t shifted in over a month, they both needed this. “Anything for you, Honey.” He watched her take the ring off and hold it in her hand for a minute before setting it on the table. She was gorgeous no matter what she wore, or her expression, but right now she was positively glowing. The sound of skin tearing, of bones popping, and of muscles stretching filled the dining room. Honey then stood in front of him as a badger. Her small golden and brown body stared up at him. Her species was known to have tempers, and so was his. They were meant for each other. The dark and light strips on her head and big amber-colored eyes made her appear docile, sweet, but he knew better.

  She moved closer, her long nails scraping along the wood. He bent down, rubbed his palm over her back, and smiled in pleasure when she rubbed up against him. He loved that she was so giving to him, even with this small act. And then Logan was shifting as well. His bones broke and realigned, his skin ripped, fur broke through, and his muscles stretched. He didn’t need to look in the mirror to know that he was not like any other shifter out there. He had the body of his bear, big, strong, and dangerous. But his fur was a light gray from his wolf genes. His eyes were the same dual color as when he was in human form.

  They stood there for a moment, staring at each other, not speaking, but having this unbreakable bond. And then he lowered his head and ran his tongue along her face. They headed out of her house, the woods right at the back porch. Looking at each other for a moment, Logan knew that although they were an unlikely pair, they were meant for each other. There would never be another female for him.

  She was his, and he was hers. Nothing on the planet could change that.
